Volunteer Information

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to volunteer for the entire clinic?

No. You are not required to be at the clinic every day or all the hours the  clinic is in operation. We understand that it is difficult to commit multiple days of volunteering and we would love to have you for as many or as few days as you can commit. Clinic days scheduled for longer than 12 hours have shifts you can choose from during the day.

Will there be meals provided?

Yes! We provide meals for volunteers during each clinic day along with snacks. There will not be meals on the set-up day, however there will still be snacks provided on that day. We do not provided meals  for patients during the clinic.

Will I need to check in when I come to volunteer?

Yes! You will need to check in every day you come to volunteer. We use this to keep track of how many volunteers we have on site each day and to confirm volunteer hours for those who need verification.

Can I receive services from the clinic as a volunteer?

You cannot receive services from the clinic on the same day that you are volunteering. If you are in need of services, we encourage you to get the service you are in need of first and volunteer on a separate day of the clinic.

What services are offered at the clinic?

We provide fillings, extractions, and cleaning in the Dental Department; eye exams and free prescription glasses in the Vision Department; and general medical services in the Medical Department. There are no root canals, crowns, dentures, or eye contacts offered at this clinic.

Is there childcare at the clinic?

We do not provide childcare for volunteers or patients. Children cannot be left alone or with a volunteer. Volunteers are not allowed to escort children to the bathroom or watch them while their parent is receiving a service.

Is there liability/malpractice insurance for volunteers?

Yes! All volunteers are covered by AMEN’s malpractice and liability insurance policy once they have signed the volunteer waiver.

Will I get a t-shirt?

As long as you have registered online and have received your confirmation email prior to the t-shirt order date (generally 1 month before the clinic) , you will be given a volunteer t-shirt when you arrive for your first volunteer shift.

Can minors volunteer?

The minimum age for volunteers is 14. Any volunteer under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or adult supervisor and must have a waiver signed by their parent or guardian. No children under the age of 18 are permitted to work in the dental area.
